Every year I get Glastonbury envy when I turn on the TV to see music lovers like myself bearing witness to some of the world’s most exciting music acts and performers. Then it starts to rain and I am quickly transported back to one time at Glastonbury when I literally got stuck in the mud on my way back from an amazing night dancing to Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve. It’s not the same watching it on the TV at home on my nice cosy sofa with a glass of wine, but it helps to ease a little of the longing as I watch the muddy wellies and weather beaten festival goers standing for hours to see their favourite performers. I have to say, no matter what, I absolutely love Glastonbury (and a lot of other music festivals) and it will always have a very special place in my heart, so it’s no wonder that more and more couples are choosing to get married at festivals. Festivals by their very nature are a celebration so it makes perfect sense to me that people would choose to make their commitment during such a special event.
I had planned on going to Glastonbury as a pre-wedding celebration when I got married but with the difficulty and unpredictable nature of getting tickets I decided against it. Now that we have young children, my wife and I are still biding our time as to when we should introduce our kids to the magic and mud of festivals (although we did take our youngest to Secret Garden Party when she was a mere 2), it’s not far off though and I can’t wait to see it again through their eyes.
I’ve loved seeing some weddings held at Glastonbury and I’m sure they happen all over the place at many of the fantastic festivals that we now have. If you are thinking of going down that road with regards to your wedding then definitely check out Festival Brides website whose ethos is to be true to yourself with freedom and creative expression, just brilliant. I also loved looking at Wedfest, festival themed wedding stationary, you could have so much fun with this, just great.
If like myself you didn’t get a chance to be at Glastonbury this year, do check out the Glastonbury videos via the BBC website of some amazing bands, if nothing else it will inspire your wedding playlist which can only be a good thing!
