Danesfield House Wedding DJ & Entertainment

Danesfield House stands above the Thames between Marlow and Henley, a chalk-white house in 65 acres of gardens with the Chilterns behind it. Robert Hudson finished building it in 1901, pulling down the Georgian house that stood there first. In 1941 it was requisitioned by the RAF as its photographic reconnaissance and intelligence base, and it stayed in service until 1977. It opened as a hotel in July 1991, and in October 2014 the house was taken over for a weekend for George and Amal Clooney’s UK wedding celebration, held in a marquee on the lawns.

Weddings run in the Versailles Suite, which is licensed for 100 at a ceremony and seats 110 for the wedding breakfast. There are four other licensed ceremony rooms for smaller numbers, the Chiltern Room for the evening, and a marquee on the lawns for up to 200. Sixty bedrooms, and the whole estate can be taken exclusively.

The Versailles Suite

The evening party happens in the Versailles Suite, the same room the wedding breakfast is in. Uplighting looks particularly good in there, and it is the thing we would push hardest if you asked us what to spend a little more on at this venue.

The turnaround, and why it shapes your day

Because the party is in the room you have just eaten in, the room has to be cleared and reset between the two. The main DJ rig goes in during that gap rather than sitting in the corner through dinner.

That is worth knowing when you build your timeline, because the gap is real and the room is empty while it happens. The way we handle it is to run the earlier part of the day on a separate system: a PA for the ceremony and the speeches, background music through the wedding breakfast, and hosting or announcements if you want them. The day keeps moving while the room changes behind it, and the evening rig is ready when the doors open again.

We have supplied a lot of full days here on exactly that basis, and it is the main reason to have one supplier across the whole thing rather than a DJ who arrives at eight.

Music through the day

Our DJs play what you actually want to hear, and you can put the night together yourself with our playlist builder if you would rather be specific. For the earlier part of the day we can supply live musicians, from string quartets and harpists to saxophonists and singers, and for the evening there are bands, choirs and roaming acts. Our DJ Live setup puts musicians over the DJ set if you want both at once.
