Stationers’ Hall Wedding DJ & Entertainment

Stationers’ Hall sits behind its own gates a few steps from St Paul’s, one of the last ancient livery halls left in the City of London. The current building was finished in 1673, rebuilt after the Great Fire, and the Worshipful Company of Stationers has been there in one form or another since 1403. It is Grade I listed, and once you are through the gate the City goes quiet.

We’ve been a recommended supplier here for a decade, across over 150 weddings and events. Weddings, corporate evenings and Christmas parties, and enough of them to know how the building behaves.

The Livery Hall

Most of our DJing happens in the Livery Hall, and it is a genuinely stunning room. Carved oak, mahogany panelling, and the stained glass, which is the thing people photograph. We usually set up under the Caxton window.

There’s a practical advantage here that is easy to miss when you’re planning. We set up in the Livery Hall before the wedding breakfast rather than after it, so there’s no turnaround gap between dinner and dancing. The party can start almost as soon as the speeches end, and the room never goes flat while furniture gets moved.

That also means we can run background music through the wedding breakfast itself, and handle the hosting and announcements if you’d like us to, rather than you briefing somebody separately.

The garden and the courtyard

The walled garden is one of central London’s better-kept secrets, sheltered and unexpectedly green, with an ancient plane tree in it. It suits drinks receptions.

We’ve played a lot of summer parties out in the courtyard too. A saxophonist outdoors in the City, on a warm evening, is not what guests expect.

Music through the day

The building asks for something particular in the daytime, and we’re often booked for classical musicians who suit it. A harpist for the ceremony, a string quartet through the drinks, then the DJ in the evening.

For the evening itself, a saxophonist or a percussionist playing over the decks is our DJ Live setup, and it suits a room with this much character.

Lighting

Subtlety wins in a building like this. Uplighting picks out the architecture and warms the room as the daylight goes, and the dance floor lighting arrives later without turning a Grade I listed hall into a nightclub. The aim is to work with the building.

Uplighting is an addition to the DJ setup, quoted with the rest.

How we work

The day belongs to you, and everything we do follows from that.

You’ll get an online request system for your music, where tracks are marked must play, play if possible, or do not play. You can also build your own list with our playlist builder. There’s a planning sheet, and we speak to the Stationers’ Hall team the week before to cross-check timings against theirs.

On the night, a DJ who reads the room and stays out of the way. No microphone chatter. Mark has been doing this for over forty years and judges at The Wedding Industry Awards.

Corporate and Christmas

A good share of our work here is not weddings. Company dinners, awards evenings, milestone celebrations and Christmas parties all suit the building, and the same room that carries a wedding carries an event just as well.
